The Academical Village People is an all male a cappella group at the University of Virginia. We got out name from UVA's founder, Thomas Jefferson, who called his school the Academical Village. You can recognize us from the AVP insignia on the backs of garage shirts (see below). Our main objectives are to have fun and sound good while doing it. Like most a cappella groups, our songs are self-arranged and self-taught. We sing songs from a variety of genres including country, r&b, hip-hop, rap, alternative, punk, and rock from a variety of time periods (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc.).
We like long walks on the beach, candle-lit dinners, Broadway, Survivor, any kind of teen-drama, Desperate Housewives, and Sex In The City. But most importantly, we like the smile on your face. And we'll go pretty far to see that. Aside from that, when we're alone we like to wear t-shirts with monkeys on them and sing to the radio while we're driving. That covers most of the important stuff. Come out to a concert, dorm sing, or drop us a line- you want to know more!
